Career Experience Summary

 Jan. 2000-Pres. Real Estate & Mortgage Brokerage & Real Estate Development:  Successfully established Cal Coast Realty and Americor Financial to provide full service real estate sales and mortgage finance with discount broker values.  Idea was an instant success with consumers and business grew dramatically through 2004 when residential sales volume grew to over $20M. Company has grown with ethnically diverse agents.  Business diversified into residential real estate development since 2001 specializing in upscale apartments and hotel development in ventures with Development Management Resources, Inc.  Responsibilities include commercial real estate marketing, market research and analysis, pro forma development analysis and project management.

1999-2000 Mortgage Lending:  Originated, processed, and closed over $3M production in residential mortgage finance with California Equities, Inc.  Developed marketing plans for junior loan officers and telemarketers.  Coordinated recruitment and made personnel hiring recommendations and learned loan business products, lending guidelines and mortgage industry practices.  Designed advertising copy.

1997-1999 Management & Analysis:  Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center in San Diego, performed quality assurance reviews and analysis of conventional and multimedia computer-based technical training curricula for 63 courses of instruction.  Drafted executive summaries and official correspondence intermediating with upper management and defense contractor project managers.  Retired after 21 years of honorable naval  service.

 1994-1997 Enlisted & Officer Recruiting:  Consistently achieved or exceeded quota throughout independent duty assignment based in Frankfurt, Germany.  Served vast sales territory covering most of Western Europe.  Developed modular sales skills: prospecting, sales presentations, objection handling, and closing.  Received three Navy Achievement Medals sustained superior production and other distinctive honors.  

 1993-1994 Recruit Company Commander:  Trained two companies of navy recruits through basic training at Naval Training Center, San Diego.  Assignment brevity was due to base closure.

1992-1993 Sonar Division Chief:  Anti-Submarine Warfare division leading chief on guided missile cruiser USS Leahy throughout Western Pacific deployment including Arabian (Persian) Gulf assignment during Operation Desert Storm.  Coordinated Combat Information Center electronic readiness support during critical mission providing air traffic control to Mogadishu Airport off shore of Somalia during conflict memorialized in movie “Black Hawk Down”.  Action resulted in two awards: Joint Meritorious Unit Citation and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.  Co-leader of ship’s “Boarding Search & Seizure Team”, trained in commando style ship-boarding actions.

1989-1992 International Diplomacy  & Public Affairs :  Assigned to U.S. Embassy, in Bonn, Germany, under U.S. Defense Attaché as exchange officer.  Performed diplomatic liaison duties with Federal German Navy while serving onboard coastal minehunter as “Sonarmeister”.  Performed anti-mine warfare operations throughout Europe, Scandinavia and Mediterranean in multi-national exercises.  Reported directly to defense attaché.  Witnessed firsthand events surrounding fall of Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany.  Provided critical translation services to senior German Navy squadron commanders during forward deployment during Operation Desert Shield.  Conferred with the Ehrenmedaillie der Bundeswehr (Honor Medal of the German Defense Forces) for exemplary service.  Developed German language fluency.

1988 Foreign Language Studies:  German student at Defense Language Institute (DLI) at the Presidio of Monterey.  Excelled in total immersion language training (8 hours classwork and 4-6 hours homework daily).  Volunteer football coach at Robert Louis Stevenson High School, in Pebble Beach.  Coached JV as Defensive Coordinator and coached varsity defensive ends and linebackers.

1978-1988 U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer:  Performed various military assignments including 3 years of technical training at Fleet ASW Training Center and over 5 years of sea duty aboard guided missile destroyer USS Lynde McCormick, including 3 extended deployments to the Western Pacific and completion of over 2 years of various Navy technical training programs in electronics and anti-submarine warfare (ASW).  Promoted to CPO (E7) after only seven and a half years service.

1977 Construction Worker:  Worked as apprentice carpenter in residential new construction as journeyman framer.  Also worked on new retail sites doing tenant improvements.

1975-1976 Student-Athlete:  Football scholarship student-athlete at UCLA, played scout team as redshirt freshman, member of 1976 Rose Bowl winning team, recruited and coached by Dick Vermeil.

1970-1975 Student:  Los Angeles Baptist High School graduate.  High School All-American and Prep All-American as outside linebacker.  Also played fullback and special teams.  Worked summers and part time in construction industry apprentice in the following trades: rough & finish carpentry, electrical, concrete, equipment operator.  Licensed bus driver at age 18 in ski trip charter bus service.

Rancho Carrillo HOA board delegate, landscape committee and website committee member.  City of Carlsbad trail network volunteer and Rancho Carrillo liaison.  Former volunteer docent at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historical Park.  Recent volunteer service positions include: San Marcos Pop Warner youth football coach and fundraiser (2 yrs), Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club team manager, AYSO youth soccer coach (2 yrs), PTO Treasurer & classroom volunteer at La Costa Meadows Elementary School, server at Temple Beth Israel San Diego Hunger Project.

Personal

Married since 1991 to Debora Weidanz (former German Champion & 1989 World Champion in Frisbee Accuracy & Freestyle Frisbee).  We have three children: Courtney, Benjamin and Catherine with whom we enjoy travel, tennis, skiing & swimming.
